About

Daniel Dunt (b. 1995) is a British designer, writer and artist from Colchester. He lives and works between the UK and Dortmund, Germany.

Design

Daniel is an established Production Designer and Art Director for film and television, where he combines his love of storytelling and design. He has worked on a plethora of projects for outlets including Netflix, Amazon, BBC, ITV, and Channel 4.

In addition, Daniel independently designs furniture, with a particular focus on future-thinking, modular design for small spaces — often combining contemporary elements with traditional influence.

Art Practice

Daniel’s practice is, in the broadest sense, storytelling; an exploration of time and place — origin, memory, journey, desire — depicted through multi and mixed media.

“Where we have been and where we are heading” is a thread that leads the work in most instances. Whether obvious, physical or more abstract, much of Daniel’s work is highly narrative, often with elements that err on documentary.

“Making art is time travel. Whether it’s with a lens, brush or pen, it is through the process of creating that I learn about the world. It can take you back to the origins of humanity, catapult you through myth and memory, or send you into the future and help you to understand what may be on the horizon. But you can have fun with it — which is why my work is a constant negotiation between reality and imagination, with a good amount of fantastical notion.”

Writing

Daniel writes fiction and has completed one novella and several short stories in the fantastical realism genre. He is currently working on his debut novel.
